Just Us Girls Challenge #440 - Trend Week - Stencils

Hello and welcome!

I'm here today with some inspiration for this week's at Just Us Girls Challenge #440,
Its trend week, I'm hosting and I have chosen: STENCILS!
Clink on the link above to see the awesome inspiration from our guest designer and the whole team!

I love using stencils and today I picked one of my favorites!

I used the Simon Says Stamp's Heart Mandela Stencil.
I used a piece of kraft card stock and applied Distress Oxide Inks with Tim Holtz  blending tools.
As soon and I was done, I put clear embossing powder on the Distress Ink and used my heat tool to melt it.  It really made the colors look very shiny and pretty!  I wasn't really careful around the edges because I knew I wanted to only use a portion of the stencil on my card.

Here's what it looked like after inking and embossing it:

Then I took a stitched circle die and cut out part of it and mounted it on a kraft card base hanging off the top and left side.  I used my scissors to cut off the excess of the circle and then decided what sentiment I wanted to use.  I cut the Simon Says Stamp "Sending" die out of black and adhered it to the card and then stamped the "birthday wishes" from the Wplus9 "Sending, Hoping, and Wishing" stamp set in Versafine Clair Nocturne ink and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.

To finish my card I added lots of black Nuvo drops.  I think I have a Nuvo drop addiction!
Haha!  I just seem to use them on every card - I can't help myself!

Here's a closer view so you can see the shine of the embossing powder a little better:

I hope you will have time to play with some stencils this week and join the JUGS Challenge!
I can't wait to see what you create!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  1. WOW what a difference the embossing makes to the ink... it really shines. I love this stencil. I have a similar stamp but think I NEED this stencil too!

  2. I love this. So beautiful! I discovered years ago when I only had colored pencils to work with and a heat gun and some clear embossing powder. As an experiment I took some of the clear EP and my gun and embossed my colored pencil images. I was so shocked as to how much brighter and more beautiful my colored pencil art looked. I have not done that in ages though so this was a great reminder to me. Your card is awesome and I love that stencil too and the awesome colors.

  4. So lovely; thanks for the inspiration to give this a try. Question - how did you adhere the stencil to the kraft - spray adhesive?

  7. We're about to embark on Day 2 of bike race officiating (and Day 14 of NOT being in my craftroom...eek!), but popping in to let you know that I'm bedazzled by your stunning mandala (evidently we were channeling one another in our stencil choice *grin*). The shimmer...swoon! Love this!
