Plaid Dancin' Ghost Mini Slimline

Hello and welcome!  Today I have a fun mini slimline Halloween card made with the "Dancin' Ghost" die set and the "Hypnotic Background" hot foil plate, both from Spellbinders August release.

These "Dancin'" dies are just the cutest because their legs swing back and forth - and they are so easy to create.

I wanted to use some plaid paper in Halloween colors, but I actually didn't have any so I made my own.  I took stripes stencils from my stash, linked below, and inked up some white card stock with Distress Oxide inks in Halloween colors.  I just kept moving the stencil around and turning it sideways until I had lots of stripes I likes, then I took a ruler and added white lines and gold lines with a gold paint pen.

Originally my plan was to make the whole ghost plaid but after I cut him out, he didn't look like I thought he would.   Don't you hate that when it happens?  It was too busy of a pattern so I had to come up with Plan B.

So I decided to cut two plaid ghosts layered behind the white one on either side so you can still see some of the plaid but the ghost is not all plaid.   Here's a close up picture of the ghost so you can see the pretty gold lines in the plaid.  It's hard to get them to show up in the main photos, so I took the one up close.

You can also see that I layered some of the plaid under his legs so it's showing through the holes.  Also if you look at that Hypnotic Background, you can see that I didn't hot foil it at all.  I just ran it through with an embossing mat - and it's watercolor paper so because it's so thick and soft, it gives a very pillowy look to the background.  Here's the sandwich I used in my Spellbinders Platinum 6 machine to get that look:

1)  main platform
2)  tan embossing mat (if yours is very thin you will need to add several extra pieces of card stock for shims
3)  watercolor paper
4)  hot foil plate face down
5)  one cutting plate
6)  any extra card stock shims you may or may not need - I used one as the tan mat I used was thick

For the pumpkin and candies inside, I cut from white card stock and use a finger dauber with the same inks I made the plaid with.  I glued small pieces of black card stock behind the ghost's eyes, and the openings in the pumpkin.  Then I attached the black handle die cut to the pumpkin and slipped the candies into the top of the pumpkin.  There's a little slit in the pumpkin die right at the top that makes it super easy to add the candy piece.  Next I pulled the ghost's white arm out a little and hung the pumpkin on it.  I used foam tape behind the pumpkin to give him some dimension.

Since I had a little plaid paper left over, I cut two thin strips and added them to the top of the card panel, then cut the sides down just a little on the left and right.  Next I added that whole panel to a black 3" by 6" piece of card stock, then added that to the mini slimline card base.

To attach the ghost, all you is take the legs and don't attach them to the card, but rather add a round foam dot to the card where you want the top of the legs to be.  Hang the legs on that foam circle then add the ghost on top of the legs hiding the top part and foam dot, where you hung the legs from.  Once the ghost is added (be sure to add him with foam tape so the legs can swing underneath him), you've got your dancin' ghost card!

The sentiment is from a stamp set (linked below) embossed in white on black card and popped up on foam tape.  Here's one last look:

I hope you like my card for today.  Let me know if you have any questions on how I made this and I'll be happy to answer you.  All of my supplies are linked below with affiliate links.
