Dies R Us - Stretching your Background Dies with Tutti Designs Garden Background Die

Hello and welcome!  It's Angie here today with some inspiration using the Tutti Designs Garden Background Die.  Background dies are great but they come at a much higher price point, so I really try to stretch the uses of mine in as many ways as I can possibly think of.

I love the Tutti Designs Garden Background Die and often use it just as is, cut in white with a colorful background behind it and a word die.  It's a great die for a quick card, but it's also a great die for using just portions of it and using the one die cut to make several cards.  This is also a great technique to use if you want to make a more CAS (clean and simple) card with lots more empty white space showing.  You can also cut just parts of the dies itself, like just the individual flowers or other elements in the design for your cards

Here's how I made my cards:

I started with a piece of watercolor paper and used Lindy's Magicals on the paper with water to make a very vibrant colored background.  The colors I used were "Cat Tail Copper Brown" and "Tibetan Poppy Teal".  I mixed some up on my craft mat and sprayed lots of water on it and on the card stock and mixed the Magicals with a paint brush.  Then I smooshed the watercolor paper into the color to get a messy fun background piece.  I dried it in between the two colors and then I was ready to die cut some words from it.

Here's the background with just the teal on it so far and the Tutti Designs Garden Background Die cut from white card stock.

Next I adhered the large die cut to the background and used another piece of the background to cut "Thanks" using the Lawn Fawn Scripty Thanks Die.  I also cut Die-Versions Sweet Wordlets "Blessed" die from the watercolored paper.

Next, I took some Dotted Border Dies from Avery Elle and cut the whole piece into 3 pieces.  I also used the dies and cut some extra borders in black and extra words in black too, for layering.

Here I am trying to decide how I want to do my layouts...at first I thought I'd use black thin strips of card stock down each side, but later decided to adhere the whole top panel onto a black panel so there would be black edges on the right and left side of the cards.

You can also see that I used a Zig Two Way glue pen to adhere the 3 layers of word dies together.

After I was happy with my layouts, I adhered everything to the black panel then on top of a white card base.  Lastly I added black Nuvo drops in every little circle cut of the Tutti background die.

Here's my first finished card:

And my second finished card:

I really like using larger die cuts this way because it not only makes more cards out of the one cut, but it helps me make cards that are less busy and feed my need to create in a more clean and simple way! It also really stretches those more expensive dies and ends up making them more economical because you can use so many parts of them for different type cards!

I hope this has inspired you to look at some of your larger dies and see if you can cut parts of them off to use smaller sections on your creations - It's just another way to look at your dies and stretch their uses!

I hope I inspired you in your crafting adventures!
