Happy Birthday Winter Beast Cards

Hello and welcome!  Hope your Saturday is off to a great start!  I had a little time to play in the cave today with some goodies I got as gifts!  It's always fun to get new product and then figure out what you want to make with it.  I really need birthday cards for my stash, so that was my goal today.
This set I received as a gift is MFT's Beast Friends, one that has been on my wish list for a while now!  So I decided to use it but combine it with a birthday sentiment from another MFT set.

I discovered a real time saving tip today with my Scan n Cut.  Don't know why I never thought of this before.  I stamped the images and cut them with my Scan n Cut at .4 edge and then cut a 2nd piece of blank white card stock so I would have some blank die cuts that I could stamp later.  But here's what I decided to do today.  I knew I wanted to mask off the images for my cards but I really hate fussy cutting the masks.....so I put masking paper through my scan and cut and I put the cutting edge right back to 0 and it cut beautifully.  Now I have a mask for each of the images I had first stamped, without all the work fussy cutting them.  I don't know why I've never done that before - that was the whole purpose of getting a Scan n Cut so I didn't have to fussy cut!

I stamped the beast right on the card front, then masked him and added trees and a gift.  I masked all the images and then inked the background with Distress Inks lightly in cool blue colors.  I used my Clarity Stencil Brushes to get it nice and light.  While the masks were still on, I splattered Distress Ink on the background with a paint brush.  Then I removed the masks and colored the images with Prismacolor pencils.  Lastly I added a striped piece of paper from Papertrey Ink and a little shimmer on the trees (that you can't really see!)  I made two of these cards, they didn't come out exactly the same but pretty close.  Here's closer view of the 2nd card.

Here's both of them.  I noticed I forgot to give rosy cheeks to one of them...oops!

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great weekend!

  4. What a heartwarming card! You've demonstrated the PERFECT way to color an image and bring it to life! The background is so pretty, too. This is subtle and stunning at the same time and I love the striped strip detail at the bottom. This is wonderful and I'm so glad you shared your skills with us for this week's Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge!
