Feathers for Two Cards

Hello and welcome!  I played in the cave today while waiting for a big cold front that's supposed to blow in later tonight!  I wanted to enter the brand new challenge from Darnell Knauss "Twofer Card Challenge!"  It's a challenge to make 2 different cards with the same stuff.  It actually says same stamps and/or dies so I'm not sure if my cards will qualify because I used the same embossing folder on both for my focal point.  It's a feather embossing folder by Darice.

For my first card I inked the embossing folder with Distress Inks and ran it through my Big Shot.  I cut it down a little and added it to a black card base, then rounded the bottom corner.  I used a black marker to fill in a few dots for interest and added a white heat embossed sentiment from "Dream Catcher" set by Gina K Designs.  Here's a closer view:

For my second card, I inked the embossing folder darker with the same inks and then fussy cut the feathers out.  (It's actually the de-bossed side of the paper.)  I arranged them on the speckled card base and stamped the sentiment in black.  I have no idea who makes this sentiment set but it was the very first set of stamps I ever bought.  I wish I knew!  When I adhered the feathers, at the top they are glued and toward the bottom, they are popped up on foam tape for dimension.  I added lots of black dots everywhere....I think I got carried away with the dots!  That's what happens when you're crafting while watching re-runs of Law & Order!

Here's a closer view of this card:

Thanks so much for stopping by!

I will enter this in:

Twofer Card Challenge #1
(if using an embossing folder 2 ways on cards counts!)

  3. Such gorgeous colors and textures, Angie. Those feathers have so much interest, and I don't think you got 'carried away' with those black dots. Wonderful cards, and thanks for joining us at the Twofer Challenge! Bev

  4. Angie, these are so cool! Very pretty. I’m a dot lover so I don’t think you have too many dots at all. Also, the way the feathers are placed on the card, it almost looks like they could be arranged to look like a one-eyed swimming turtle or a lobster if you have a sudden need for one! LOL ~ don’t ask me how I came up with that!

  5. Hi Angie. Your two cards are so beautiful!! I LOVE the design and the colours. Very creative. You mentioned in your post a couple of times whether this qualifies for the Twofer Card Challenge where you are to use stamps and/or dies in two different designs. Unfortunately, embossing folders do not qualify. We appreciate you taking the time to make this gorgeous cards and entering them into our challenge. We hope you'll join us again, using stamps or dies. Loll xx

    1. Thanks Loll, I'm so glad you let me know. I thought they might not be eligible - I had so much fun making them. I will do my best to re-enter with one that follows all the rules and thanks for offering this great new challenge with Darnell!

  7. I have never seen an embossing folder worked like this, Angie! I have tried so hard to get even a little ink on a folder with no success so these feathers just blow my mind! The colors are fantastic together! I am going to have to come visit or Skype with you to get a lesson! I'm sorry, as Loll said, that it is stamps (or dies) only for Twofer, but I sure love these and I'm sure anyone visiting the gallery loves them, too! I look forward to seeing your enthusiasm and creativity go to town with my challenge!! Hugs, Darnell
