Hello and welcome! I'm here today featuring the newly released Spellbinders "Sugar Plum Tweets" die set. This set is full of dies that go together to make these adorable birds plus there are sentiment dies too.
To make my birds, I took a large piece of watercolor paper and added lots of Distress Inks to it using the smooshing technique. I dried it between each color and I have listed the colors I used in my links below if you are interested in them.
Once it was dried, I cut parts of the birds from it and parts from black and then glued the bird parts together. I cut the flourish die twice from black to use as a branch for each bird to sit on. I only used about 1/2 of the die for each bird. I added the flourishes to the card and then added the birds on them. This was all put on a piece of woodgrain card stock cut to 4.5" X 3.25." I cut 4 extra panels that size to use underneath the panel for dimension instead of foam tape.
The sentiment is from Spellbinders "Christmas Magic" Hot Foil sentiment set. Instead of foiling it, I did a letterpress technique. I added white ink to it with a brayer and then turned it face down on a piece black card stock and ran it through my Platinum 6 machine to do a letter press. Here's the sandwich I used:
1) main platform
2) tan embossing mat
3) black card stock
4) inked hot foil die face down on the card stock
5) one cutting plate
6) two or 3 card stock shims (every machine is different so try it without shims first and add them slowly one at a time until you get the pressure you need.)
The die really presses into the paper beautifully and makes a very deep impression! The white didn't quite get into all of the crevices so I used a white gel pen to cover any areas that didn't get inked and then I used a black fine point sharpie to go around the black edges to cover any unwanted white ink around the "JOY" sentiment. The snowflake didn't come out perfect because it needed more ink, so instead of trying to get in those tiny indents with my gel pen, I took 3 snowflake sequins and glued them together and glued them to the top of the letterpresses snowflake.
I hope you enjoyed my sweet birds for today's card. I had a lot of fun putting this together. Be sure to check out the whole new release from Spellbinders HERE.
I have linked all my supplies below if you are interested in them.

Those birds are super cute. Love the smooshing technique as it works well on watercolour paper. The entire card is lovely.
